The Bavarian Alps are made of two national parks: Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Berchtesgaden that we will discover a week later.
We first went to Garmisch-Partenkirchen , 100 kms from Munich or Innsbruck in Austria- home of the two main summits of Germany (Zugspitze and Alpspitze) which are proudly standing above 2,600m. During our short roadtrip we saw many things typical to Bavaria : the wooden houses with balcony full of flowers (bougainvillea?) , men wearing Oktoberfest costume and many cows with their bells! Beautiful.
On a blue-sky day, we decided to hike Alpspitze as less crowded than Zugspitze. Well we played lazy and hiked down, not really hike up as we did many times in Guatemala or Colombia! We took a cable car up to the summit, looking how beautiful the valley is with its quartz and granite cliffs, fascinated by how high we are ! (Lucky we are not afraid of heights)
Arrived to the summit at 2,600m we went straight to the AlpspiX platform. The particularity of this platform? It’s made of glass ! At 2,600 metres , overhanging the valley, it took me a bit of time to get to the edge and then I kept hanging to the platform , scary but how beautiful!
We loved the view, looking at the paragliding flying around, the untouched summit, the cliffs. Amazing.
We then walked down for an hour, on the Garmisch classic walk before taking another cable car down. But our day was not over, 10 kilometres away was the Eibsee Lake. Clearly the most stunning lake we ever saw! With many shades of blue&green , surrounded by pines , it took us 1 hour and 45 minutes to hike around, fascinated.
We never expected to find something that beautiful in Germany !
End of another beautiful day !
