I was not afraid of the crazy Montenegrin drivers and decided to drive on a mountain road called the Serpentine. This Road is famous for being a winding road with not less than 32 sharp turns! The view on the Bay of Kotor is stunning and the mountains offers a nice contrast with the coast.
On top of having to brave all these sharp turns we had to drive through many small wildfires. Quite a journey to get to an altitude of 1,675 metres!
The National Park offers many walks, we didn’t have much time unfortunately so we just went to the Mausoleum and the Belvedere. To get to the top you will have to climb around 450 stairs but trust me that’s definitely worth it.
The Mausoleum was built in memory of Petar II Petrović-Njegoš, at some point Prince of Montenegro, philosophe and poet and considered as one of the most important figure in Montenegro. The Mausoleum in itself is not the best piece of architecture I ever seen but the belvedere and the view it offers on the black mountains is incredible! On a blue sky day you can see as far as Italy and see 5 borders ( and all the wildfires we were surrounded by, scary!)
The Black mountains, the wildfires and the dry landscapes definitely contrast from the Kotor Bay and its blue Adriatic sea & Red roofs, a must-do !
